Raumplus was founded in 1986 in Bremen, Germany, by furniture engineer Jürgen Guddas, specializing in wardrobe systems and sliding doors. Its products have repeatedly won prestigious industry awards such as the Red Dot Award, the iF Design Award, and the German Design Award. As a leading brand in the European market, Raumplus inherits the Bauhaus design philosophy: German precision engineering quality, creative functional design, and a minimalist style.
When creating the Raumplus Asia-Pacific R&D Center, a concise and powerful volume was an important factor in forming brand recognition. We focused on the visual tension of the building itself and used the contrast between solid and void to create multi-layered spatial relationships.
We hoped that the tension presented by the visual object would be generated by the perception of the internal force movement within the form, resulting in different internal force patterns. These patterns manifest as the size, direction, shape, color, intensity, mode of movement of the forces, etc., ultimately making the project's appearance fundamentally different from its surrounding environment.
Additionally, the use of the brand's corporate color and the design of a rhythmic building facade appearance form a simple and effective brand recognition. By reconstructing the artistic conception of a forest, we created a sense of rhythm similar to a musical score to break the sense of oppression caused by the large building volume on the environment. Within this sequence, a series of display windows were also formed, making production itself the subject of viewing, like a performance of modern industry, heralding the arrival of a new, revolutionary lifestyle.
